Is OsteoPhase helpful for men? Yes. Men also get osteoporosis as they age. Researchers speculate that fewer men than women get osteoporosis because they reach adulthood with better bone density than women. They also do not go through menopause, which causes an acceleration of bone loss in women. However, all men and women who have to take regular corticosteroid medications suffer equally from moderate to severe osteoporosis. And when men do get osteoporosis, they’re outcome is in some ways worse. Consider that average of almost 25% of hip fracture patients over age 50 die in the year following their fracture. But while the rate of hip fractures in women is two to three times higher than in men, the one year mortality rate is nearly twice as high for men. While we recommend that men also get bone density scans to determine their levels of osteoporosis and potential for disabling fractures, the benefits of taking OsteoPhase daily are important enough to consider daily supplementation even without scan results. Last, since OsteoPhase was designed to regulate calcium, it appears to take calcium out of soft tissues like our arteries and brain cells where it accumulates and eventually calcifies and puts it back into our skeleton where it strengthens bones and teeth. These other benefits of calcium regulation are just as important as the bone strengthening effects for men’s health.
Can OsteoPhase be used with Fosamax? OsteoPhase is a nutritional supplement that works in an entirely different manner than Fosamax. Fosamax is a drug that works by stopping osteoclast activity, the process whereby bone cells break down bone tissues. OsteoPhase, by contrast, supports calcium function and aids the osteoblasts, the bone cells that build bone tissue and regulate calcium storage in bone tissues.
These two products should not interfere with each other, but there are no studies that verify this. There are also no studies that show any drug/nutrient interaction. It is our policy to always recommend that if people have concerns about taking one of our supplements together with western drugs that they consult with and be monitored by their physician. Having said that, it is probably advisable not to take OsteoPhase on the same day as taking Fosamax, due to the frequency of digestive difficulties that occur with Fosamax.
Does OsteoPhase affect estrogen levels? We do not have any information indicating that OsteoPhase changes estrogen levels. OsteoPhase regulates calcium storage and homeostasis to restore calcium levels to those normally seen in healthy systems. This process is initiated by OsteoPhase without regard to the cause of osteoporosis, whether from low estrogen levels from menopause, taking corticosteroid medicines, or other health imbalances.
