S.A.D. Light Box Rentals

Seasonal Affective Disorder or S.A.D. is very easily treated with the use of a light box. S.A.D. is caused by lack of bright light during the darker months of the year causing symptoms of depression and fatigue and lack of interest in normal activities. These symptoms are similar to the hibernation cycle in many animals. The seasonal clock is in part affected by the hormone melatonin. During periods of sunlight the production of melatonin is reduced. By providing summer light exposure in winter, the effects of S.A.D. can be greatly reduced.

The treatment is to bring bright light to the sufferer using a light box or similar device. Benefits are usually felt within 4 - 10 days. The treatment time will vary from one person to another. Those worse affected will need longer treatment than those with mild S.A.D. Benefits have also been found for ME sufferers with 50 - 60% of sufferers reporting improvement in symptoms when building treatment up gradually.

Renting a light box for a few months can be an excellent way of determining whether your symptoms are due to S.A.D. and gives you the opportunity to try light therapy before purchasing a light box.  If you do decide to purchase the light box at a later date, we will apply half the first two months rent against the purchase price.
