Filtering both drinking water and bathing water is an important part of reducing the total load of contaminants entering the body. Ingesting chemicals such as chlorine from drinking water can cause symptoms in any sensitive people and inhaling the fumes from bath and shower water can cause reactions to those suffering from asthma and chemical sensitivity.
If the outer surface of the skin is broken and sore, chlorine can be particularly aggravating and can adversely affect anyone with eczema or other skin conditions.

What is in drinking water?
Cryptosporidium, giardia and other cysts
These microorganisms are resistant to chlorine and other chemicals so traditional water treatments are not sufficient to guard against them.
They can cause stomach and digestive tract problems including diarrhoea. The Ultracarb (THHUC), Ultracarb Imperial (HHUC), Super Sterasyl (GWPSS) and Super Sterasyl Heavy Metal (GWPHM) filters remove 99.99% of these organisms.
Rust and other particles
The source of rust particles in water is usually old iron pipework which is common where mains supplies date back many years. Our filters have an absolute filtration rating of 99.99% of microns 0.9 or larger.
Lead and heavy metals
Lead can cause physical and mental retardation, behavioural problems and learning difficulties, high blood pressure, strokes and heart disease. It can also lower sperm count. The lead removal of the Ultracarb filter candle is 98.3%. This filter and the GWPHM will also remove other heavy metals such as aluminium, copper, cadmium and mercury though there have been no quantitative tests carried out.
Chlorine
Chlorine is used by water suppliers to kill bacteria although the dead bacteria are not removed from the water. Chlorine can react with organics in the water to produce trihalomethanes which have been known to cause cancer. Chlorine is also responsible for the unpleasant taste of tap water. Our filters remove in excess of 97%.
Bacteria
Bacteria that cause disease are rarely found in chlorinated mains water supplies but are often found in stored water and private water supplies. These pathogenic bacteria can cause illness such as typhoid fever, cholera and gastroenterocolitis. Our filters remove 99.99% of particles down to 0.9 microns which is sufficient to remove most pathogenic bacteria.
Oestrogen, synthetic oestrogen and other organics
There is increasing concern over the effects from oestrogen and synthetic oestrogen residues in the water supply. The activated carbon in our filters will remove oestrogen and synthetic oestrogen. Because quantitative tests have not been carried out, we cannot state figures.
