It has become customary for everyone to purchase bottled water, but for pennies a day you can have unlimited filtered water safe in the knowledge that harmful contaminants have been removed.
High levels of contaminants can be absorbed through the skin and through inhalation during bathing. Showering and bathing in filtered water not only helps people with allergic conditions, it is also beneficial for the skin and hair and the general health of the body.
NSF Independent Testing
Be careful about accepting unsubstantiated claims. The only accurate statements are those substantiated by independent tests. We only make claims about the specification on our water filters that have been proven by independent tests. For example, the Ultracarb filter is tested for lead removal. It will remove other heavy metals such as mercury but since the filter has not been independently tested for mercury removal we cannot make claims about its removal.
NSF International is an independent non-profit consumer products testing organization. Without prior arrangement, NSF will visit the manufacturer during the year and will select and test a sample of each product to determine the quantity of the chosen contaminants that the filter will remove from the water. NSF are also very careful to ensure the filter, or the filter media, does not add anything to the water. The testing is unbiased, fair and accurate. This gives us confidence in the products we are offering.
What is in drinking water?
Cryptosporidium, giardia and other cysts
These microorganisms are resistant to chlorine and other chemicals so traditional water treatments are not sufficient to guard against them.
They can cause stomach and digestive tract problems including diarrhoea. The Ultracarb (THHUC), Ultracarb Imperial (HHUC), Super Sterasyl (GWPSS) and Super Sterasyl Heavy Metal (GWPHM) filters remove 99.99% of these organisms.
Rust and other particles
The source of rust particles in water is usually old iron pipework which is common where mains supplies date back many years. Our filters have an absolute filtration rating of 99.99% of microns 0.9 or larger.
Lead and heavy metals
Lead can cause physical and mental retardation, behavioural problems and learning difficulties, high blood pressure, strokes and heart disease. It can also lower sperm count. The lead removal of the Ultracarb filter candle is 98.3%. This filter and the GWPHM will also remove other heavy metals such as aluminium, copper, cadmium and mercury though there have been no quantitative tests carried out.
Chlorine
Chlorine is used by water suppliers to kill bacteria although the dead bacteria are not removed from the water. Chlorine can react with organics in the water to produce trihalomethanes which have been known to cause cancer. Chlorine is also responsible for the unpleasant taste of tap water. Our filters remove in excess of 97%.
Bacteria
Bacteria that cause disease are rarely found in chlorinated mains water supplies but are often found in stored water and private water supplies. These pathogenic bacteria can cause illness such as typhoid fever, cholera and gastroenterocolitis. Our filters remove 99.99% of particles down to 0.9 microns which is sufficient to remove most pathogenic bacteria.
Oestrogen, synthetic oestrogen and other organics
There is increasing concern over the effects from oestrogen and synthetic oestrogen residues in the water supply. The activated carbon in our filters will remove oestrogen and synthetic oestrogen. Because quantitative tests have not been carried out, we cannot state figures.
