Incinerator destroys bacteria, mould & particles rather than filtering them

The incinerator technology does exactly what it says on the tin – it incinerates airborne bacteria, viruses, pet dander, pollen, ozone and mould spores. It can minimise the symptoms of hay fever once the unit has been in place for 2-3 weeks.  Pollen will be kept to a minimum thereafter.  Regular filter technology simply captures them whereas the Airfree® T40 air purifier destroys them.

For more information view the Incinerator Technology tab.

No filters means maintenance free which saves you money

As the Airfree® T40 air purifier has no filters so it doesn’t need replacement filters. It simply requires being switched on and left alone in the corner of your room. You can forget that it’s even there. Not forgetting the impact of no replacement filters which saves you money.

The Airfree T40 Air Purifier is absolutely silent for no distraction

With no fans to draw air in through conventional filters the Airfree® T40 air purifier is completely silent.  It is perfect for even the lightest of sleepers. If an anti-stress light is required then choose the P40.

Rest assured of its ability to clean air in a small room sized up to 16m2

The Airfree® T40 air purifier will easily filter the air in your room size up to 16m2. It is designed for one room use and should not be moved around. Within 14 – 21 days levels of airborne allergens and microorganisms will have decreased by 85% and will then be kept at this new low level.

Airfree® Incinerator Technology Information

What is incinerator technology?

The Airfree® patented Thermodynamic Sterilizing System, or TSS, draws in particles which are then incinerated in the ceramic core. Sterilised air is then cooled before being released back into the room. Within fourteen to twenty one days the level of microorganisms and allergens will have been reduced by 85% and from then on are kept to a minimum.

Airfree’s exclusive technology works by eliminating microorganisms and allergens, destroying them in a fraction of a second. Depending on the model, between 14,000 and 20,000 litres of air pass through the Airfree® device every hour, treating all the air in the room in a very short space of time.

The process works in much the same way as sterilising water by boiling it. When water is boiled, the microorganisms it contains are eliminated. In similar fashion, Airfree continually draws in air from the room, heating it to over 200 ºC and instantly sterilising it. The purified air is then cooled inside the device before being returned to the room.

The entire process is completely silent and requires no maintenance, not even the occasional replacement of parts. All you have to do is switch the device on and leave it to get on with the job.

How Airfree works

Safety feature

A warning light is activated if the Airfree® is improperly installed. If the unit is placed sideways instead of vertically, is under furniture or its air inlets or outlets are blocked, the ceramic core will be disconnected and the unit turned off. After one minute the blinking light will come on to attract your attention.

N.B. Run a new unit in a ventilated room for the first two days to get rid of the new smell.

FAQs for Airfree

How does Airfree work?
Airfree destroys microorganisms at its heated capillaries. Contaminated air is dragged into Airfree’s ceramic core by air convection and microorganisms are destroyed at high temperatures regardless of how resistant and dangerous they might be.

Are there any side effects?
No. Airfree’s new technology uses heat to purify the air. No side effects, no emissions, NO IONS, nor new particles are generated. Airfree® should be used in all homes and offices, quietly, constantly, and efficiently purifying the air. However, there is a manufacturer’s recommendation on the box that “Please plug in in a well ventilated area during the first 5 days. Like all electrical devices with a resistance, Airfree can release some odour during that period.” We always recommend that you follow the instructions, particularly if you are chemically sensitive.

My Airfree does not stop blinking. What does that mean?*
Cause 1: Airfree incorporates an automatic energy-saving feature by automatically shutting off the ceramic core when it has reached a temperature range to facilitate air convection (air in the room is drawn into the machine to destroy impurities, contaminants and odours). The ceramic core shuts down for a few minutes, the indicator light turns off, and the top lights emitting diode (L.E.D.) blinks. Airfree continues to sterilize the air during this time. This indicates the conservation of electric power consumption and the preservation of the ceramic core.
Cause 2: Another contributory factor to Airfree’s blinking occurrence is the ambient air (air in the environment). When the ambient air reaches 35 ºC, Airfree® auto-regulates itself with the ceramic core “shut off” for a few minutes but still continues with its sterilizing activity (the blinking of the top lights and the fade away of the side LED on models P40/P60/ P80/ P125/ P150 and just the fade away of the side LED on model E40/ E60/ E80/ E125, signals this occurrence). In this process energy is conserved and Airfree’s safety mechanism is enhanced.
Cause 3: Airfree incorporates state of the art electronics detecting any improper placement or device malfunctioning. If the top lights does not stop blinking, please ensure that your Airfree® unit is in the upright position. If the top and bottom air inlets are free of blockage, the blinking may be due to a faulty electrical outlet. Please plug it in into a proper outlet. If in the next 10 minutes the top lights continues blin-king and your Airfree® unit is correctly installed, this indicates that the device may be malfunctioning. Please promptly contact your dealer in such case.

* The Airfree E40/E60/E80/E125 does not incorporate the Anti-stress lights.

Is there any risk when the top light of Airfree is blinking?*
No. When Airfree electronics detect any irregularity it automatically shuts off the TSS™ ceramic core.

* The Airfree E40/E60/E80/E125 does not incorporate the Anti-stress lights.

What is Airfree’s air cleaning capacity?
The cleaning capacity for Airfree units ranges from 16 to 60 m2.

Can I install Airfree in my walk-in closet?
Yes, as long as it has at least 330cu.ft. (10m³)*. Airfree® should not be placed under shelves or its efficiency will be reduced.

* as reference 330cu.ft. (10m³) is approximately 7’x7’.

Can I use Airfree in air conditioned rooms?
Yes.

How do I know if Airfree is no longer working?
Feel the top of the lid. If it is warm, the Airfree is working.

Can I place Airfree in the corridor to reach the whole house?
No. Airfree will then just reduce air pollution in the corridor area.

Can I place Airfree in a closed room?
Yes. Please remember such a room must have at least 330cu.ft. (10m³)*.

* as a reference 330cu.ft. is approximately 7’x7’.

Does Airfree eliminate bacteria and viruses?
Yes. Unlike some air filters on the market Airfree® is more efficient with the smallest microorganisms as they are easily carried by Airfree’s airflow into its heated ceramic core.

Can I move Airfree from one room to another?
Airfree must always be plugged in in the same room 24 hours a day. Airfree’s patented technology works gradually and cannot have its cycle interrupted. Moving it from one room to another will interrupt the cycle and will recontaminate the room. See below.

Should I turn off Airfree when I leave the house?
No. Airfree should always be left on.

What happens if Airfree is disconnected or if there is a power cut?
Airfree will take approximately the same time to recover the previous reduced contamination level.

Does CADR measure the effectiveness of the Airfree?
Not at all. CADR is not designed to test the Airfree technology. The AHAM seal (usually found on the back of an air cleaner’s box) lists three Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADR) numbers: one for tobacco smoke, one for pollen and one for dust. The CADR indicates volume of filtered air delivered by an air cleaner. The higher the tobacco smoke, pollen and dust numbers, the faster the unit filters the air. The main reason why CADR is not designed for Airfree is because Aifree does not filter but destroys microorganisms instead, CADR only applies to volume of filtered air delivered by an air cleaner as stated above. CADR does not measure microorganism reduction like mould and bacteria only detectable by a microbiology lab. Airfree destroys (does not trap or attract to another surface) any microorganisms regardless of how small they might be. 99,99% of all organic particles are fully destroyed when passing through the Airfree U.S. patented ceramic core.

How does Airfree destroy dust mites?
Mould reduction in the environment causes reduction in the mould-dependant dust mite population. Airfree also destroys harmful toxins and fungi, and particles of dust mite faeces that trigger respiratory allergies.

How does Airfree eliminate fungi?
As mentioned before, Airfree eliminates airborne microorganisms included fungi and spores. By eliminating spores new colonies are unlikely to develop, resulting in fewer future airborne spores.

How does Airfree® destroy viruses?
Microscopic virus microorganisms are easily eliminated inside Airfree’s ceramic core capillaries. The temperature inside Aifree’s capillaries is much higher than required to incinerate them.

Does Airfree reduce tobacco smell?
Yes, Airfree reduces any kind of organic smell within the room including tobacco.

Does Airfree release any gas or chemical product?
No. Airfree’s sterilisation process is natural. Please check our website for conclusive tests regarding particles and ozone.

Does Airfree heat up a room?
No. Airfree does not noticeably increase room temperature. Two Airfrees plugged in in the same room will contribute as much heat as the presence of one adult in that same room.

Does Airfree alter the room’s relative humidity?
No.

Does Airfree have any filters to replace?
No.

How economical is Aifree to run?
The power consumption for an Airfree ranges from 33 – 52W depending on the model.

Does the Airfree anti-stress light interfere with Airfree sterilising function?*
No. The anti-stress light has an aesthetic effect for relaxation or as a night light in children’s or babies’ bedrooms. According to chromo therapy the blue light has a calming and relaxing effect.

Where do the microorganisms go once they have been destroyed?
As all living organisms, microorganisms and their by-products are basically composed of carbon, oxygen and nitrogen. Since Airfree reaches nearly 414F, all the microorganisms go through a combustion process, which produces carbon dioxide (the same substance released by respiration) and water.

How does Airfree clean the air without a fan?
Airfree’s patented Technology TSS™ (Thermodynamic Sterilizing System) generates airflow quietly through air convection and sterilizes air at high temperatures. The airflow generated by Airfree is the result of convection and equals 14 m³/hr according to the SP Swedish National Laboratory. Contaminated air is continuously drawn into Airfree®. There is no need for a fan. Airfree®’s exclusive TSS™ technology has been proven to be effective by some of the world’s most prestigious independent laboratories in six different countries in real working conditions. You can find the test results on the Airfree website www.airfree.com in the section TESTS.

Does Airfree reduce the necessity of dusting surfaces?
Using an Airfree does not eliminate the need to dust. Airfree is not an air filter that “traps” dust. It incinerates dust particles turning them into harmless components.

Can a particle counter measure Airfree’s efficiency?
Some air purifiers use a particle counter to measure their filters’ efficiency. Airfree does not filter or trap particles. The patented Airfree TSS technology is not a filter. Therefore, a particle counter is not designed to measure the efficiency of Airfree’s technology.

Why is that?
Firstly, particle counters are used to count the quantity of particles at the outlet of an air purifier. Airfree is not a filter and does not trap particles; therefore, the quantity of particles entering and exiting the unit will be pretty much the same.

Secondly, the particle counter will not tell you if the particles are alive or not – harmful or not.

What are particles?
Particles are any air contaminants floating in your room, such as dust mite faeces and skeletons, hair, dead skin, pollens, bacteria (dead or alive), viruses (dead or alive), fabric remnants, mould spores (dead or alive), pet dander, car emissions and many others.

The Airfree TSS technology destroys microorganisms by combustion (application of high temperatures of around 400ºF) and turns microorganic contaminants into denatured particles. When organic particles are combusted, their proteins are denatured, i.e. the particles lose their original structure and are made harmless. These harmless particles are released back into the environment after the combustion process and are therefore still detected by the particle counter. However, as mentioned before, the counter will not tell if the particles are harmful or not, dead or alive.

How do we know if invisible particles floating in the room are harmless/destroyed?
Rather than presenting customers with CADR or CFM ratings, we at Airfree go straight to the point and prove to our customers what they really expect from an air purifier – real benefits – Airfree aims at goals and not at the means. The goal is to see a mould and bacteria reduction in the room and that is what our patented Airfree TSS technology proves

The Airfree TSS technology offers several advantages such as:

Maintenance free operation
Environmental protection – no replacement
No need to touch or change contaminated parts
The claims Airfree makes on mould and bacteria reduction are backed by independent tests performed in real working environments.

How does Airfree help with dust mite allergy?
Basically, dust mite allergens, of which DERP1 is the most well known (skeletons, excrements), are lighter than dust mites.

If they are lighter, they become airborne dust. Once they are airborne, they are destroyed by the Airfree heat as the Cambrige test illustrates.

Another theory is that some dust mite species like D. farinae need yeast to help their digestion (1). As you may know Airfree reduces yeast and mould (source: ÁCAROS CONTAMINANTES DE AMBIENTES E CAUSADORES DE DOENÇAS ALÉRGICAS NO HOMEM, CROCE, J. – Professor de Pós Graduação em Alergia na Faculdade de Medicina da USP..BAGGIO, D. – Foi professor do Departamento de Parasitologia do Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas.)

D pteronyssinus dust mites eat no fat, only human skin. If fat is found on the skin they need Aspergillus mould to help digestion (1). ( source: ÁCAROS CONTAMINANTES DE AMBIENTES E CAUSADORES DE DOENÇAS ALÉRGICAS NO HOMEM, CROCE, J. – Professor de Pós Graduação em Alergia na Faculdade de Medicina da USP.. BAGGIO, D. – Foi professor do Departamento de Parasitologia do Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas.)

With Airfree, there is less mould available in the environment, therefore dust mites’ food supply is limited and they starve. This is only a theory, very difficult to prove since tests would not separate living dust mite from the dead ones.

What is the amount of air that is moved per minute by the Airfree P3000? Will it exchange the air in a 344.4 sq. ft. room once a day? Once an hour?

Please note that it takes around 5 hours for Airfree to silently circulate the air in a room of 344,4 sq. ft. at a ceiling height of 8 feet. Therefore, there will be around 4 to 5 air exchanges per 24 hours.

However, what is of real importance to us at Airfree is how much less mold spores and bacteria will be in the room itself, which will allow our customers to feel better.

Airfree performed more than 20 tests with independent laboratories in real working conditions, which prove an average microorganism reduction of 85 to 97% in the room itself.
