Keep cool with the finest natural fillings
For a blissful night’s sleep, it’s very important to keep your body at a comfortable temperature. If in warmer weather you find yourself waking up with the duvet half removed or your feet sticking out, that’s a tell-tale sign that you need to look for a lighter duvet.
Experts recommend that a cooler environment is more conducive to a better night’s sleep, as your core body temperature needs to drop before you drift off.
This opulent Summerdream duvet has been carefully crafted so that you can enjoy an optimal night’s rest during the warmer months. With a filling of the finest grade Class 1 European duck down and small feathers, this duvet has the classic light and lofty texture that so many people love, with a tog guide of 4.5 to help prevent overheating. The 100% natural filling and cotton cover is also ideal for those who cannot tolerate synthetic fibres.
Carefully crafted to be gentle on your allergies
When it comes to allergies and sensitivities, no detail has been overlooked in the design of this duvet.
Perfectly sanitised feathers
Some people avoid animal-based fillings over concerns that they may not be hygienic. Likewise, many people sometimes mistakenly believe that they are allergic to the down and feathers themselves, but are actually reacting to either dust mites or bacteria within poorly-sanitised fillings. (Of course, there are some people who are truly allergic to down and feathers – if you’re one of those people, head over to our synthetic duvets section for a wide selection of man-made fillings).
This duvet removes concerns about excess bacterial growth, house dust mites and their allergens. How?
The luxurious down and feather filling contains only the highest quality Class 1 brand new (not recycled) raw feathers. These fresh feathers have undergone a special sanitisation treatment called Downafresh®. This is a vigorous process of washing (up to 8 cycles around 1 hour long each), drying at over 100 degrees C, disinfection and thorough testing at a laboratory to ensure that they meet strict hygiene standards. You can therefore rest assured that the filling in your bedding is perfectly clean and hygienic, free from residual keratin and bacteria.
Naturally dust mite resistant
Do you often wake up sneezing or have a stuffy nose in the mornings? This could be an indication of house dust mite allergy. If you do turn out to be allergic to dust mites, this duvet won’t become a breeding ground for dust mites like many traditional duvets can.
The secret is the extremely tight weave of the cover fabric. It is woven so densely that house dust mites simply cannot break through and ‘colonise’ the duvet. This is proven with the official NOMITE® mark.
Easy to keep clean
Many standard duvets start out sparkling clean, but people are afraid to wash them in case the springy texture is lost. Thankfully, the Summerdream duvet is machine washable at 60 degrees C, so that you can easily remove stains, dirt, bacteria and allergens whenever you wish.
Certified free from harmful substances
Lots of household products, including many items of bedding, are treated with harsh chemicals. This duvet carries the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100, giving you peace of mind that your new duvet meets strict ecological requirements which go above and beyond existing legislation. This includes limits for the use of chemicals like pesticides, heavy metals and formaldehyde.
Daunasan® and Downafresh® are trademarks of the registered Association of the European Bedfeather and Bedding Industries documenting that the filling material complies with the European standard EN 12935 (“feather and down – hygiene and cleanliness requirements“). Companies using these brands have the down and feathers they process tested at a hygiene laboratory and document the origin and processing of the filling material.
Bedding products marked with the Downafresh brand are filled with feathers and down that were previously washed with water and dried at temperatures of at least 100°C. Hence, bedding products which carry the Downafresh label meet the hygienic requirements laid down in the European standard EN 12935.
Feathers and down are a product of nature. They are produced according to strict statutory provisions and originally do not contain any harmful substances. Their natural properties – they weigh little and keep you comfortably warm without burdening you – make for outstanding heat insulation. They are thus the perfect filling material for bedding products.
By means of a documentary traceability system it is established that the filling material was gathered in conformity with current animal welfare legislation.
During the processing only environment-friendly cleaning agents are applied which preserve the natural properties of the feathers and down. At the end of the product life cycle the filling material can easily be recycled.
The producers who use the Downafresh® label have undertaken to have their products regularly tested by an independent testing laboratory to ensure that they meet the requirements for hygiene and cleanliness.
Just because you have dust mite allergy you needn’t sacrifice the comfort and durability of down and feather bedding.
In fact, the conditions created by down and feather bedding are not conducive to dust mite survival and reproduction. This makes them an ideal choice for people with house dust mite allergy.
NOMITE certified bedding also has an extremely tightly woven fabric cover, creating a physical barrier between you and the dust mite. This can help to relieve allergy symptoms associated with exposure to house dust mites and their faeces.
OEKO-TEX® Standard 100
How can you ensure that the textile product you are buying is free from harmful substances and chemical treatments?
If you have allergies or multiple chemical sensitivity, this may be a question you ask yourself frequently. Thankfully, there are a number of independent certifications that can offer you reassurance.
One of these is the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100. This is an independent certification, established in 1992. The aim of this certification is to show that a textile product (from bedding to clothing) poses no risk to your health.
When you buy a product with the OEKO-TEX® label, you can be reassured that it is kind to your skin, free from harmful chemical treatments. It is a vigourous testing process which gives you peace of mind, so you can buy textiles with confidence.
The closer a textile product comes to your skin, the stricter the requirements it must fulfil.
The certification goes above and beyond existing legislation, forbidding chemicals which are known to be harmful to health but not officially banned. All in all, the Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 is a great quality seal to look for when you’re shopping for clothing or bed linen, particularly if you have chemical sensitivity or skin allergies.
The spores of mould and mildew are known to be a cause of allergies. Their damaging influence can be combated by means of a special process technology. We have therefore treated the cloth for our quilts and pillows using the MEDICOTT® process. When cleaned correctly this process inhibits the cultivation and nidation of mould and mildew – also when the product is wet for some time. Does not use fungicides, microbicides or bactericides. Preserves the cotton fibre and supports its durability.
The TRAUMPASS (German for “the dream passport”) is issued by the Kontrollgemeinschaft Federn-Siegel e.V (The Controlling Community for Feathers) – an association of German manufacturers of down and feather bedding. The down and feather are NEVER taken from living birds. The source of these down and feathers is carefully registered. This label also stands for new down and feathers in the given qualities. The independent Textile Research Institute in Bonnigheim, South Germany regularly tests the products. Neutral “mystery shoppers” under the auspices of a notary purchase these products in a number of different shops. For additional information please see www.traumpass.de.
Duvet Sizes & Filling Weights
The Summerdream duvet is available in 3 different sizes:
Single: 140 x 200cm
Double: 200 x 200cm
King: 240 x 220cm
The filling weights are as follows:
Wash at 60°c. Dry thoroughly in a tumble drier using three tennis balls or dryer balls. No dust mites will enter the duvet or pillow. To make sure that there are no dust mites on the surface of the duvet or pillow, wash more regularly than would otherwise be needed.
Fluff your quilt when you make your bed. This keeps it lofty, light and airy. Don’t forget to fluff it from different sides to distribute the filling evenly. Air the quilt and pillow as often as possible but do not leave in direct sunlight. Never vacuum or beat the quilt.
